Osteopathy is a safe and natural approach to healthcare for all life’s stages. Osteopaths are increasingly being asked to treat babies and children for complaints related to mechanical strains acquired before birth or during the birth process.
Although a babies’ head and body is designed to allow some movement to adapt to the forces of labour, the birth process can be a potentially stressful journey to the outside world for the body. If the birth is particularly difficult, stressful, unduly long or fast or when other complications occur such as the need for forceps, then the baby may struggle to fully resolve the stresses or strains within its body.
As a result many babies are born with, for example, an irregular shaped head. Normally this head shape or moulding will resolve itself over the first few days but if the baby is unable to resolve the stresses and strains within their body, some osteopaths feel that it might lead to subtle changes in function leading to problems further down the line.
Some of the osteopaths at this clinic treat issues like this and other traumas of birth as well as minor knocks, falls, strains and sprains. An assessment with one of our osteopaths may help to identify issues and if they find anything not in our field they would suggest referral to someone more appropriate.
There might be other conditions that we could help with so why not book in now. We find that many parents now want their baby checked over by a cranial osteopath.
At this clinic we would remind people that osteopathy is not a sole substitute for medical care and assessment, from your midwife, doctor and hospital.

I was unable to walk straight However, after one treatment with Dom I left the clinic walking much better and in less pain. Dom is very knowledgeable, friendly and caring and I felt completely relaxed in his care. He explained what was going on with my body and demonstrated exercises I should do at home. I have been a few times and found everyone very friendly and helpful and always feel welcome by the reception team I would definitely recommendPosted on Roger AmbroseTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Another excellent session with Patrick. A comprehensive treatment and feeling much much better. Crucially, Patrick made me aware of the series of exercises and stretches I need to undertake to improve and maintain my mobility and flexibility. Thoroughly recommended.Posted on JAGTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been coming to this clinic for over 14 years, and I truly can’t recommend it highly enough. Patrick Norman is an exceptional osteopath – deeply knowledgeable, incredibly intuitive, and every single session makes a real difference. Whether it’s a long-standing issue or something new, he has an extraordinary ability to get to the root of the problem and help the body heal. The clinic itself has such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are always kind, friendly and genuinely empathetic – you feel seen and cared for from the moment you walk through the door. It’s rare to find somewhere that combines clinical expertise with such human care.Posted on Jo Southgate (SuperJo)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thirteen days ago, I had my first appointment with Adele Sharp at Bexley Osteopathic Clinic. My shoulder had been aching constantly, and I genuinely thought it was something I’d have to live with. But after Adele performed dry needling and osteopathy, the improvement has been remarkable. I’m so grateful. The clinic itself was a lovely, clean, tidy, fresh paint and the staff and management were extremely friendly and welcoming. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bexley Osteopathic Clinic to anyone looking for professional, effective, and caring treatment.
